My name is David Muchai, a columnist, filmmaker, and a lover of the written word. I write two weekly humour periodicals, ‘Jiji Ndogo’ and ‘Diary of a Perpetual Bachelor’ in ‘The Star,’ Kenya’s third-largest newspaper.
I live in the Kariobangi South suburb of Nairobi City with my wife and two boys.
I spent my formative years gallivanting in the Kenyan countryside, where a neighbour gifted me my first text - a section of a small dictionary with no cover and half the entries missing. That's how I fell in love with the English language. After high school, I left the country to study law at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, India. Later, I spent a short stint in St. Louis Missouri, USA, where I moonlighted as a guerilla filmmaker.
When I’m not working on my regular columns, I spend time with my family. Otherwise, I'm writing, editing films, writing, tending to my six cats, writing, and volunteering part-time as a teacher.
