Dean and Marise grew up on sheep farm properties in the New England area of New South Wales. They had a lot in common and married in 1989. They were both passionate about animals and loved working on their farm and spending time with their three daughters. While they worked hard, life was relatively grand. By the time two of their daughters were out of the house, they were still madly in love and rolling with the variabilities of farming. But everything changed when a horrific car accident left the author with multiple broken bones. At the same time, their family farm was spiraling into the worst drought in a hundred years. With the family facing the prospect of losing their home and livelihood, the author had to struggle through multiple surgeries. The few highs and many lows they experienced—along with the deepening drought—tested the couple’s will and determination but never their love for each other or their family.
