Dr. Gerald Stulc is a retired surgeon who served for over fifteen years as Captain in the USNR as a flight surgeon. He received his MFA in Creative Writing after retiring from surgery, having been a scientific editor for a medical journal and having pubished a number of scientific articles. His current book is the sweeping historical fiction novel, The Surgion's Mate, the tale of a young man serving as a surgeon's mate during the Napoleonic War. In the course of the book, he learns the meanings of duty, courage, and true love. The medical and surgical experiences are based on the author's own experiences, and are authentically represented. The story evolved from the author's lifelong passion for military and medical history. He is currently working on a nonfiction book, The Red Badge, a comprehensive history of military medicine from antiquity to the present. He is also working on a number of papers related to military medical history. Dr. Stulc's hobbies include art and antiques, scuba diving, and playing the classical guitar. He lives in Upstate NY with his wife, Diana, also a physician, and their beloved dog, Mr. Beasley.
