Ellen Behrens’s first novel, None But the Dead and Dying, was called “an accomplished first novel” by The New York Times Book Review. “[H]er writing takes on the energy and freedom of Theodore Thompson's bluesy saxophone, making music that soars.” Reviewers around the country praised the mystical atmosphere of the book and its quirky small town characters.
Her second novel, Pea Body, features full-time RVers Walt and Betty Rollin in the first Rolling RV Mystery. Yuma Baby and Superstition Victim continue their adventures traveling the US, hunting murderers along the way.
Marcella Gauthier, in her review for Escapees magazine, described Road Tales: Short Stories About Full-Time RVing as a collection of “wonderful, whimsical short stories of the RV life told from many different perspectives. There are unique, imaginative glimpses of the daily life of an RVer. Ellen has a great sense of place, and her descriptive writing puts you right there. The variety of RVers is amazing, and you can really begin to understand what makes them tick, and it is easy to relate to them, especially since many of the stories are told in the first person.”
Ellen Behrens grew up in Sherwood Anderson’s Winesburg, Ohio, attended Denison University and eventually earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Bowling Green State University.
She received an Ohio Arts Council Grant and has been included in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Women, Who’s Who in Education, and several writers’ directories. She’s published several short stories, articles, essays and poems in periodicals across the country, and writes two blogs, one of which records her adventures with her husband Robert as they criss-cross the country living the full-time RVer lifestyle.
