Jong Yi was born in the small, beautiful fishing and farming village of Chungnam, South Korea. Yi came to North America in 1985. While she attended Adult Basic Education and English as Second Language classes, she worked as a waitress in her sister’s small mom-and-pop restaurant in Bethel, Alaska. Later, Yi began working in nursing homes as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant while she studied the Arts. After Yi earned her Associates Degree in Arts, she pursued nursing and became a Registered Nurse. Since 2003, Yi has worked as an RN, helping to care for patients in the United States.
Currently, Yi is in the process of stepping down from her nursing career. She now plans to work as an activist, fighting against racism in nursing and advocating for patients’ rights.
