A note from the author:
My name is Kingston Crow and I live and breathe in Los Angeles, California. I write and illustrate most days except when it's sunny, which is most of the time. I walk my dog at the beach. I ride the monorail to the top of a hill where I have lunch at the Getty. I troll Amoeba Records in Hollywood, not for music, but books – and I gaze at almost a century of album design for hours. I take the Expo line to Downtown and walk through the intersection of art and politics (in which I once worked). I stroll through the Hollywood Farmer’s Market and pretend not to notice Julianne Moore. I haven’t ordered lunch from a food truck since I worked at a local meat packing plant. I have lived in Los Angeles for most of my life, but have barely scratched the surface of the city. I still consult LA Weekly’s event listings, Jonathan Gold’s restaurant reviews, a weather app, Google maps, and Waze, before leaving my neighborhood. At what amounts to thirty bucks a pop, I have abandoned the multitude of movie houses for the comfort of my bed, where I bear witness to the golden age of the streaming image, preferably psychological thrillers and science fiction (Under the Skin!). I read all types of fiction, and non-fiction – science, art, politics, bios, and history. But mostly, I talk to my dog.
