R.D. Smith is a life-long experience collector. In 2001, he made a semi-impulsive decision to move abroad. What was meant to be a one-year trip set off an unexpected chain of events that lasted for fourteen years across three different countries.
R.D. went from New Zealand, where he earned an MA in Theatre and Film Studies, to three cities in China–Shanghai, Wuhan and the tiny town of Ma’an–and then back to New Zealand to pursue his PhD. Experiencing two major earthquakes in Christchurch changed his mind about graduate school, and he found himself on a plane to Tokyo, Japan. In Tokyo, he met his wife, who is from Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2015, R.D. and his wife moved back to his hometown of Charlotte, NC.
R.D. works in real estate, spends his free time with his wife and daughter, and writes as much as time permits. He hopes to release Dang: The Legend of Vernon Boone in early 2018.
