Rex Nelson is a wanderer, adventurer, and generally crazy person—by some standards. He was born in Pennsylvania, but calls the Pacific Northwest home. At least, that’s where he stores his belongings and occasionally finds time to hang out between adventures. Though an engineer by training, Rex was never comfortable in the salary world. Instead, he has spent extensive time contracting at remote research stations. He first visited Antarctica for a one-year contract at McMurdo Station and returned for three summer contracts at Palmer Station. Apparently not having had enough of the cold, he then spent a winter in the Arctic at the summit of the Greenland ice cap. A true testament to his lack of sanity, he returned to Greenland five years later—this time during spring. Look for Rex on a bike, next to a campfire, under a kite, or in a daze. His photography and blog can be found on his website: basicallybipolar.com.
