Richard McGarry lived in Key West during the 1970s and, due to the island’s irresistable force-field, was pulled back with his husband Greg Madsen for 10 more years in 1995. He painted island scenes at his art studio on Duval Street, drew plans for local renovations, danced at The Monster, and served for
several years on the Old Island Restoration Commission (forerunner of HARC) during the first bout. Then, in the rematch, he and Greg ran a construction and roofing company, drew more house plans, did home inspections up and down the Keys, and he served on the locally unloved Key West Tree Commission.
The time in-between was spent at their combination design studio and T-shirt shop on Lincoln Road in South Beach. Greg and Richard now live with the old-folks in The Villages, Florida.
