Rita Di Gianvittorio is an artist and educator from Quebec, Canada. She holds a Specialization in Art Education. Over the years, she has guided a wide range of creative art explorations in inclusive classroom and community settings.
Her father's progression into the deteriorating depths of Alzheimer's sparked an ongoing personal interest in the value of empathy. Rita's picture book, Getting Along with Lola Bird, is an extension of that interest. The story is a loose account of her earliest lessons in empathy by way of a fiery rescue bird called Lola.
Her backyard garden ecosystem is a vital source of inspiration for her paintings and her writing. It happens to be a thriving haven for neighbourhood bumble bees, mason bees, monarch butterflies, snails, spiders of all sizes, mud dauber wasps, and more. Rita holds a certification in Permaculture Design and is an amateur seed saver, Quebec heirlooms in particular.
