Roohee Marshall, the author-photographer of “A Generation Found: Precious Pearls of Wisdom,” has spent her career in the healthcare field and as an independent holistic practitioner promoting healthy alternatives and embracing a peaceful balanced state of mind. Born in Natchez, Mississippi in the 1950s, she came to realize that one of her life's missions was to contribute to the preservation of her family’s legacy that has been passed down by her elders and ancestors. In the coffee table book, “A Generation Found: Precious Pearls of Wisdom,” she photographs and interviews 40 gallant, audacious, high-spirited, courageous and lionhearted African American elders ages 80 to 108 from around the country. These Black seniors, which include her uncle, acclaimed photographer Roy Lewis (“Songs of My People”), share their profound lives full of rich experiences that can be passed on to other generations. Marshall and her husband raised their family of five adult children, including award-winning filmmaker Qasim Basir (“Mooz-lum” and “A Boy. A Girl. A Dream”), in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
