Steven Mayfield is a former physician who writes books that contain humor, heart, and a dash of crime. His novel, Treasure of the Blue Whale was a 2021 Silver Medalist in both the Benjamin Franklin and Nautilus Book Awards and a finalist in the Foreword Indies, Book Excellence, Indie Excellence, and Eric Hoffer competitions. It was runner-up in the Hollywood Book Festival, a semifinalist for the Chanticleer Mark Twain Award, received Honorable Mention recognition in the San Francisco and New York Book Festivals, and was one of Shelf Unbound’s 100 Notables of 2020. He is a past recipient of the Mari Sandoz Award and his collection, Howling at the Moon was an Eric Hoffer finalist and a Best Books of 2010 selection by USA Book News. Mayfield lives in Portland, Oregon.
