In the mid-1970s she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to pursue a master’s degree in librarianship and found her home in Berkeley, where she lives with her husband. Vivian's articles in the field of librarianship appear in professional journals and books. Since retiring in 2010, she has been writing personal essays, memoir, and short fiction. Her work has won awards and recognition several of her stories and memoir pieces have been published in journals and anthologies.
