Goodreads Review

I got an advance review copy through a giveaway organized by the publisher. I found the book interesting for two reasons. First it has weaved the story well. Second, ideas were interesting to read about. Like crypto currency adopted by USA to replace paper one.

Likely Story

This books follows Sher Shah, flashing between the present where he has been diagnosed with colon cancer and chooses to recount his life in journals where we, as readers, are taken on a journey through the past with a younger Sher Shah.

I found this book to be really interesting. While it focuses on political themes, there are also notes of rich culture, history, and fascinating philosophy. Kundi did a great job at weaving together a story full of human experiences and ideologies while challenging complex societal issues.

I also really enjoyed the futuristic aspect of this book. At first I was confused on how the storyteller was born in 2020 and telling the story but as we progress further along, I realized that this story takes us to the future where things such as communication IDs and medical history chips are considered normal. Kundi  cleverly uses futuristic technology to illustrate points that are relevant in today’s society.

NetGalley review

I really enjoyed this historical fiction novel, it had everything that I was looking for when I read the description. The characters were everything that I hoped for and they worked in this universe. I thought it worked with what iwas expecting and glad I got to read this.

I liked Sher. I thought he had his heart in the right place.

The Reading Bud

One aspect of the novel that particularly stood out to me was Kundi's skilful portrayal of the protagonist's internal turmoil. As Sher Shah grapples with questions of identity and purpose, Kundi deftly navigates the complexities of his character, allowing readers to empathise with his struggles and triumphs. The juxtaposition of Sher Shah's personal journey with the larger political landscape adds depth to the story, elevating it beyond a simple tale of societal change.

It is refreshing to read a book which has a simple narrative and gets to it. -- Matt McAvoy
