Marty Gregg, a young woman reporter for the Daily Record in Rye, New York during World War II, is determined to investigate a mysterious shipyard fire and yet fend off the unwanted attentions of her boss. He is good looking and demanding and in spite of herself, she sometimes feels drawn to him. How can she resist him, yet impress him with her work and stay true to her fiance, Eddy, who is a fighter pilot in the Pacific? Added to her worry, no letters have come from Eddy for weeks.
