Derrick McBride’s debut novel is based on the real-life events of his grandfather Jack McBride and is an inspirational story for all ages. Derrick comes from a long line of men seen as the pillars of their community and continues this family heritage by giving his time to various youth organizations and raising funds for charities to make society a better place. Serving the community runs in his family’s veins.
“The day my grandfather told me his story of the search for Miss Willie, I knew I had to retell it,“ said Derrick. “The journey to publishing this book took twenty-five years, and I am passionate about sharing it with the world to celebrate Miss Willie and my grandfather.”
The novel takes place during the 1970s in a South still struggling with race issues. One Search for All is comprised of a colorful cast of characters, each when their level of struggle and triumph during a time with racial tensions were high. The story centers around Jack McBride’s quest to find Miss Willie, a local elder woman viewed by the community as a leader, intelligent and mysterious. As Jack discovers the truth, he embarks on a self-reflection journey with childhood friends and learns how one decision can have a ripple effect and change the lives of many - for the better.
