She Moved Through the Fair
When her best friend ropes Caitlin Ross and her band into playing at a local music festival, Caitlin expects to be irritated with the whole affair. She doesn't expect to find one of the festival promoters murdered with magic. As the only person with knowledge that the death is anything but natural, Caitlin sets herself to unmask the murderer, and discovers that he or she is after an amulet that grants wishes to those lucky--or unlucky--enough to obtain it. Determined to find the amulet first and use it to lure the murderer into the open, Caitlin plunges into the festival armed with her magic and with her wits. But even as a series of chaotic events points her in the right direction, Caitlin finds out that her magical gifts have consequences that she never expected.
Reviews
Goodreads

The second book in the Caitlin Ross series is even better than the first. The setting (a small town festival) is vivid. I really care about a lot of the human characters; they have a variety of realistic motives. The gods and demons that Caitlin has to interact with to solve the mystery are mysterious, thrilling, and scary. Caitlin's magic and its terrifying effects are beautifully described.

I love it when I get to review one of Katherine Lampe's books. Simply put, they are well researched, compelling, and show a real and authentic relationship between Caitlin Ross and her husband, Timber.

In this book, Caitlin Ross has been roped into playing at a music festival by her best friend. She's not entirely happy about it, but her band needs the exposure. Not long into the book, one of the festival promoters is murdered and Caitlin discovers that it was magic that was responsible.

Caitlin is a witch. She has a history with magic and she decides to find out who did it and why.

I won't spend much time talking about the story. Suffice it to say, it's a good story, plotted well, and with a great ending. But I don't really want to spend time on that. You should read it for yourself.

What I will spend time on is the series as a whole and the craft of the author. Katherine Lampe is one of my favorite authors because her books are complete. That sounds odd to say, but there is nothing halfway done in her novels. The magic is well researched, consistent, and adds to the story, rather than being the whole point of the story.

Caitlin and Timber are rich characters, though as this is the second book, they are still evolving to the reader's knowledge. Reading about them, you know that there is so much more to both of them than what we've seen so far and you can't wait to find out what secrets they are both hiding (even from themselves).

My only (very minor) issue is that I find these books a tad slow to get into. I fear that readers will turn away before the first 10% of the book. If you read past that, there is no way possible you can put this book down. And don't think for a moment that the beginning is bad. It's not. It's all of the information that you need to really get into the story. I strongly recommend this book and the entire Caitlin Ross series
