Jessie becomes the ward of sister Carrie after their parents die. Jessie is determined, despite resenting that their brother and sisters refuse to support or care for Carrie, to raise Carrie with the Christian ideals and culture of their North Carolina heritage. But Carrie finds an Iranian young immigrant on the Internet and over Jessie's efforts to prevent the romance, Carries defiance and Jessie's stubborn resistance bring strife and danger to their lives.
