Smartbrain

An eerily predictive, 2-part Novel…

Part 1: Mind

Sarah Whiting, young, attractive, tech-savvy homebody, accepts a potentially lucrative offer to join a product/market analysis team that is performing the final evaluation of the believed technological breakthrough of the century before its release to the public.

As the incredible opportunity unfolds, Sarah finds herself smitten with the technology, as well as with the project’s lead engineer. Even with the contrast of taking care of her Alzheimer’s-ridden father, it all seems like a dream-come-true for Sarah. That is, until she abruptly learns that she may now be unwittingly mired in a dangerous ruse of international deception, and that the man she’s fallen for, as well as this new, highly transformative technology may originate from somewhere else, other than Earth.

Part 2: Matter

Sarah’s world is further thrown into chaos and confusion when she wakes up with little memory of her recent past and is told that she is a victim of severe brain injury brought on by the very technology she had been working with. Sarah is lost in the revelation, loath to accept the reality being told her, and soon falls into a downward spiral fueled by a husband she doesn’t remember, along with the abysmal fear that she may actually be losing her mind.

What Sarah doesn’t realize is that as she fights to gain a hold on what is real, others are in the process of risking their lives in a desperate attempt to free her from her perceptual prison. Filled with guilt, the very man who blames himself for Sarah’s cerebral incarceration begins to work with a group of highly trained professionals who might just be Sarah’s only hope of ever returning to her real life.

Grady Harp  HALL OF FAME  TOP 100 REVIEWER  VINE VOICE on March 14, 2016 rated it 5 of 5 stars

Format: Kindle Edition

One of the many joys of reading authors not previously encountered is the discovery of not just a technical wizard with words (though the gift of storytelling, ancient though it may be, is one that this author has mastered), but a mind that probes the influence of contemporary technology on those sacred areas of philosophy and spirituality and molds the present and past and future in to a cohesive and critically important way – a way that stimulates us to take the thoughts within a book and incorporate them into our own imagination and exploration of the universe and where we are in it.

Such a wonder man is GF Smith and he has made the following statement about his passionate approach to writing: ‘Through my characters and story lines, I seek to emulate the substance of what I believe are the deep-seated curiosities and concerns of everyday people. We found ourselves here, bent and shaped by our history. We live in the indefinable NOW, increasingly under pressure to balance our history with our hopes and dreams, while apparently facing our own certainly inexorable and inescapable future demise. Wondering—often with much fear and frustration—do I hold any significance, at all?’

And so he opens the gates of SMARTBRAIN, a very long yet completely compelling and absorbing novel in two parts – Mind and Matter and the result is not only a very fine and involving fiction but also a constant stimulus to make us pause and consider the effect of the ‘conveniences of contemporary technology ‘ with the very possible variations of the influence these devices ad new thoughts have on our existence – now, and in the future (if indeed there is a future). He invites us to think and oh how desperately we need literature of this nature. GF Smith is a very special author – and human being. Read him and grow.  ~Author, Artist Representative, and Top Amazon Reviewer, Grady Harp

"What if Your Brain-Computer Interface Was Hacked?“

…This technology has to do with BCI – Brain Computer Interface... Overall, "Smartbrain" is better than OK. It is intelligently written, especially Part 1. As a matter of fact, I think Smith could expand Part 1, add some conflict, trim some explaining, and make it into a standalone. There are some interesting subtexts, such as Sarah's father, who starts out as a bit part and then becomes interesting. I give it 3.4 stars rounded down to 3. I was given a free paperback of "Smartbrain" in exchange for a review.” ~ Top Amazon Reviewer, Happy Reader

I enjoyed this book. Given our current technology level and how much people love their smartphones, I can see people exploring the technology that is presented in this book. I don't doubt that many people would jump onto the chance to be able to practically effortlessly access and control their smartphones and computers without a second thought.

I think the way the SmartBrain tech was introduced was realistic, with a few people being selected to test it, signing confidentiality agreements, and so on.

There is a major plot element/driving story element in this book I am iffy about. I won't say what it is as I don't want to spoil it (those who have read the book will figure out what I am talking about) Personally, I would have liked the author to leave out this element and all aspects associated with it, but nonetheless, I think he still told a very good story, and the various technologies in here, however much in the realm of sci-fi they were, were still presented in a good way that meshed with the story well. I also loved what happened to the villain at the end, I actually laughed at it. Overall a good book, and definitely worth a read. ~ Goodreads Reviewer, Delicious Strawberry
