The Book Hunters of Milestoneville

Adult; Mystery/Thriller; (Market)

When Flower Rose and her Mathematics Professor brother, Dr. Yes, sell missing editions through their rare bookstore in downtown Milestoneville, it is up to the adventure-seeking Book Hunters G and JBT to track them down. There is another side to Milestoneville; it is where Channel 1994, a local television station, provides entertainment for this eclectic city.

The Book Hunters of Milestoneville by Golden November begins at the Milestoneville Rare Bookstore, where Flower Rose organizes a meeting to sell a valuable book while G and JBT attempt a retrieval with crashing results. A dinner party turns into fodder for a daring rescue orchestrated by Magus and G. Chaotic events unfold all over Milestoneville, from a reality show's airplane tour to disputes at the Channel 6 Music Awards, a nightclub with cryptic interactions, an emergency beacon triggered during an adventurous date, and unexpected acting opportunities for Click Clack. JBT's book recovery mission expands to find his missing dog... and a missing person. There's a hurricane evacuation mission, travel confusion, new business ventures, a concert gone wrong, a wedding, and maybe even a pregnancy. But wait, there's more! Further rescue missions involve challenges like a small aircraft landing, hang glider communication, encounters with a bear, and, of course, a meeting with a knight in the woods.

Golden November strikes again, and once more makes an appearance in their own work, with the act-along novel, The Book Hunters of Milestoneville. November's interactive novels always contain loads of adventures and subplots that wander in dozens of different directions. Usually, a hang-glider is involved at some point, and we were not disappointed this time around in that regard, nor with anything else. The dialogue-only storytelling model works because November's punchy character conversations are exceptionally well crafted. The standout scene for me in this installment is when Shelby, with her British accent and ability to completely change people's lives, casually introduces herself as someone's daughter, as if it is the most normal thing in the world. My own daughter, who has a natural British accent because, well, we live in England, had no problems shouting out, “Wot 'append next?” As a family, we really look forward to November's books, and they have never let us down. Very highly recommended.
