A dark and suspenseful tale that will keep you guessing!, June 16, 2015

By  Erin

This review is from: The Dead Dance Faster: Unsacred Awakening (The Dead Dance Faster Series) (Volume 1) (Paperback)

This book kept my attention from beginning to end, so much so that I stayed up very late reading it and got up before dawn this morning to finish! It is the story of Jael, a young woman drawn into a strange town rife with religious fanaticism where nothing is as it seems. Who can she trust? Is her paranoia getting the better of her, or is she correct in her dark suspicions about the minister of Our First Church and its congregants? And how do the past deaths of her family members fit in to this sinister world? The plot builds relentlessly, keeping the reader guessing all the while, and ends in a very satisfying way. This is my first book by Julie Ann Hacker, but you can be sure it won’t be the last. Nicely done!

A split from her boyfriend Shane and her mother’s insistence makes Jael Mancuso leave Pittsburgh for Seven Hills. Here she finds that nothing is as it seems, there is a web of intrigue that includes members of her own family, her current boyfriend Mike and the sinister Pastor Thomas Jude. With the disturbing shadow of her brother Jimmy's death haunting her she finally discovers the chilling truth about the meaning of “Diversus” and why “The Dead Dance Faster.”
Julie Ann Hacker weaves a fascinating story, it keeps you glued to each page until the very end. The characters with all their quirks spring to life, I walked with Jael around “Our First Church 1856”, the description was so realistic I could actually visualise and smell the surroundings. The choice of the Biblical name Jael for the main character and the cult themes underlying the story make for excellent reading. I must admit I am the kind of person to avoid reading horror but once I started reading the book, I was pleasantly surprised. Overall, it has all the ingredients to become a bestseller and I look forward to reading more books by Julie Ann Hacker.

I was intrigued by Jael's intuition. It took over her life and she followed it through even though this is only the beginning of her story. She's not a quitter. She's a strong female protagonist. Can't wait for Book #2 of The Dead Dance Faster series of psychological mystery. Pacing is strong and quick and good. Dialog is strong and realistic. A dramatic range of emotion. This book should is on its way to becoming a bestseller.

Gripping, intriguing, and great voice!, June 12, 2015

By Sandra S. Kerns "Romance Writer"

This review is from: The Dead Dance Faster - Book #1 - Unsacred Awakening: A Spiritual Horror Saga and Suspense Thriller (The Dead Dance Faster Series) (Kindle Edition)

A new author with an amazing voice and talent. Our main character Jael is dealing, barely, with some life changes. However, no matter how hard things seem she never totally gives up.She's determined to find answers to questions and the strange behavior of people around her.
The author's talent for description puts you directly in the scene and her characterization is well done especially for being written in the 1st person.
Now I just have to wait on pins and needles for the next installment! Well done Julie Hacker.

such vivid detail and close POV made me relish in the head of the protagonist Jael. I was hooked from that creepy book cover, but the story has such an immediacy to it, I kept turning pages until the end. Well done.

Rich, powerful, seriously creepy, June 20, 2015

By  Blake Malone

This review is from: The Dead Dance Faster - Book #1 - Unsacred Awakening: A Spiritual Horror Saga and Suspense Thriller (The Dead Dance Faster Series) (Kindle Edition)

The opening is innocuous enough. A jilted boyfriend stealing a pair of panties and running off with them. Funny stuff. Everything seems kind of normal as the heroine reluctantly succumbs to the will of her mother and heads off somewhere new to reset her life. The devil is in the detail, though. And don't miss any details because the masterly way they build and weave together is what makes this horror story so rich and ultimately powerful. The flashes we are given of a child's death years ago are at first intriguing. This intrigue builds and gradually draws into question the seemingly normal occupants of Seven Hills... things now getting seriously creepy..... Awesome story. Big finish. Great read.
