A Meany Monster lived in Lucy's closet. It was a green and furry creature and was rude and mean to Lucy. The Meany Monster did not like the clothes Lucy wore and told her she could not do anything. It pestered Lucy throughout the day and found fault with everything she did. One day the ill-mannered monster followed Lucy to school and mumbled things to her before her test. It always put her down, be it at home or outside or in school. One day Meany was nowhere to be seen, and Lucy and her dad searched everywhere for it. Lucy thought Meany must have fled but, just when she thought she was all alone, Meany returned. Lucy could not bear it anymore and after reaching home from school, she went to her room and locked the door. Lucy swatted at the monster with a broom, hoping it would go. What did Meany Monster say that changed Lucy's thoughts about herself?

The Meany Monster by Krystal Fernandes is a wonderful story about self-love, self-esteem, self-belief, and self-acceptance, and the author makes the concept easy to understand with the help of Lucy and the Meany Monster. It will also help children make peace with their imperfections. The illustrations are lively and bright and they give clarity to the concept in an entertaining way. The book is a good tool for parents and tutors to help children believe in themselves and realize that being imperfect is not wrong. Storybooks are the best way to teach children good values, morals, messages, and concepts, and The Meany Monster by Krystal Fernandes does just that.
