A Reflective Review – By Andrea R. Garrison – Online With Andrea
Up From Where We’ve Come – An Eventful Journey is a heart wrenching autobiography by Singer, Songwriter, Guitarist Charles Wright best known for Express Yourself – the worldwide ‘70’s Soul smash hit. Initially it was my intention to read the book over a period of time but once I started I could not stop until I reached the final page. Charles writes in excruciating detail about racism, during the Jim Crow era and the struggles of the Wright family who worked as sharecroppers near Clarksdale, Mississippi in the 40’s and 50’s. This brutally honest book has all of the ingredients for a compelling film. It extends beyond the Wright family in that it reveals the struggles of many African Americans who lived and survived this very painful period in American history. Up From Where We’ve Come is a powerful read and this is only the beginning. Charles Wright is in the process of writing another book that will continue revealing the story of his amazing journey from Mississippi to California and beyond.
Soul Music Legend Charles Wright will be promoting his new autobiography @ the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books - Saturday, April 9th & Sunday, April 10th @ University of Southern California
