Where is Grandma? is a children's book written and illustrated by Shari Farris. Sitting on the couch next to her daddy, Milla decides to make a video call to her grandma. Both Milla and Grandma count to ten while Milla's father hides. Together, Milla and Grandma check under the couch, in the bathroom, and the closet but her daddy is not there. Finally, they find him in the kitchen so now it is his turn to seek them out. While he counts to ten, Grandma and Milla look for a good hiding place. As she is too big for the bookshelf, the plant, and the cupboard, Milla hides herself in the laundry basket. She then jumps out when her daddy can't find her. Milla and her daddy then look for Grandma. They search in the kitchen, the bathroom, and even in the dog food until Milla remembers she left her phone in the laundry basket too. When Milla and her daddy discover that Grandma is still on the phone, together they decide which game to play next.

Shari Farris' tale is completely modern and so much fun! With many children immersing themselves in video games or their phones in the modern age, it is wonderful to see books teaching children that there are so many other possibilities out there for playtime. Including Grandma in the fun over a video chat gave Where is Grandma? a nudge in exactly the right direction so that young readers can relate to the story in today's world. Not all hiding places are ideal which is why it is so important to find exactly the right place to hide for the duration of the game (until the one looking finds the one hiding). Milla saw many potential spots but knew that it was not a place that would hide her very well. I very much enjoyed both the story and illustrations in Where is Grandma? and recommend it to young readers aged five years and over so that they can explore a fun life outside the digital world.
