When Thought Turns to Light: A Practical Guide to Spiritual Transformation

Adult; Spirituality/Inspirational; (Market)

2016 Foreword INDIES Award Finalist - Religion

This is a concise and accessible guide to everyday spirituality that provides tools and thought-provoking questions for readers to move beyond their ego and open their lives to the power of unconditional love.

Reviews
Debut author Garlinger delivers a welcoming, approachable introduction to changing the patterns of one’s thoughts—and, in so doing, positively transforming one’s relationship to self, others, and the Light. The author defines the Light as “the energy of unconditional love,” a term meant to encompass concepts of energy, the infinite, the divine, and even God, and he delicately handles any emotional baggage readers might have around particular spiritual or religious terms, even inviting mental substitutions of terminology if readers feel resistant. Garlinger assumes no previous familiarity with meditation, mantras, self-care, or gratitude practice, making each concept seem simple and doable rather than intimidating. According to the author, learning to transform oneself begins with noticing the cyclical, repetitive nature of negative thoughts—including how often we separate ourselves from others by saying we dislike or disapprove of something about them. Garlinger’s tips on replacing those negative thoughts and vibrations with positive ones are intended to raise the vibrations of the individuals and the collective, healing all with the Light. A perfect guide for those who truly want to live a richer, more abundant life that is free of hatred, judgment, and fear, When Thought Turns to Light is a highly readable book that accepts everyone for who they are and gently nudges them to accept themselves in the same way.

Goodreads

This is a book about love, but not in the traditional sense. It is about a pure, unconditional and infinite love we can all experience, which the author refers to as "The Light." Through descriptions of everyday spiritual practices, perspectives on the virtues of gratitude and forgiveness, and even the role of nutrition and environmental responsibility in how we care for ourselves and others, the book offers a framework for a way of life that can put us more in tune with the energy of The Light, and more in touch with the Divine love that is our birthright.
This book helped me to take a closer look at my negative thoughts and emotions, and to see how they affect the way I relate to the world. Being self-aware and mindful is a lifelong practice with no real finish line, but a lot of the advice in this book has already helped me to let go of some of the fear, judgement and anger that have colored my outlook on life.
