The first round of the annual writing contest sponsored by BookLife and Publishers Weekly kicks off April 1.

The BookLife Prize is back and looking for great novels and memoirs.

Now in its third year, the BookLife Prize—a writing contest sponsored by Publishers Weekly and BookLife—will be accepting submissions from April 1 to August 31, 2018.

Authors may enter unpublished or self-published books in six categories: Romance/Erotica; Mystery/Thriller; Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror; General Fiction; Memoir/Autobiography; and YA/Middle-Grade.

All entrants will receive a Critic’s Report, a brief critical assessment of their book written by a Publishers Weekly reviewer; the grand-prize winner will receive a $5,000 writing stipend and be profiled in Publishers Weekly.

Last year's BookLife Prize-winner was Face Value, a detective thriller by Ian Andrew, who said his 2017 victory raised his author profile.

"I’ve been invited to attend a number of book festivals," he said. "I’ve also had a few enquiries with regard to the TV and drama rights to the books, so that has been quite interesting, but most of all is a profound sense of validation."

He added: "Two months after the announcement, I chaired a session at the Perth Writers Festival, where I shared a platform with some outstanding traditionally published crime writers, including the amazing Louise Penny. Whilst I can’t claim even a tiny fraction of her success, the BookLife Prize did, at the very least, allow me to realize that I had earned the right to be on the stage."
