“When holes appeared in the soles of my shoes, I would find some cardboard and slip it inside my shoe. When the cardboard wore out, I found another piece of cardboard. It didn’t embarrass me. Everyone had holes in their shoes.”
Born in 1925, Alice Breon grew up during the Great Depression. Unaware that there was any other lifestyle, the children who lived during those years, 1929-1939, were happy and creative. Families helped one another during those lean times, sharing whatever they could spare. This book tells the story of one family’s experiences through that era.
In her book, “ Green Gravy, Monster Bread and Other Adventures“, Alice continues her story with the beginning of World War II when she was 16-years-old and covers the next 25 years featuring humorous adventures as an air force wife living in Japan during the Cold War. Alice and her husband, Woody, live in State College, Pennsylvania.
