Caven Tootell is the author of - Dis’ Taste - and avid researcher of the conflict between historical colonial masters and their local population. His passion is to draw out the opposition of the ‘ruling and ruled’ classes, both within the expatriates and the locals, which drives their interactions and how they live their lives.
Having served over 20 years in the military as a combat officer, retiring as senior intelligence director, he served in Desert Storm and supported the transition of East Timor. Caven then took up work with organisations working in Afghanistan where he spent many years, often living ‘under cover’. He has lived and worked in many developing countries, all of whom have experienced colonial rule. Caven has studied several Asian languages and lectured at Universities on understanding cultural differences in management.
