Her debut novel, Frances Finkel and the Passenger Pigeon, is the story of a young pilot in 1940s Oregon determined to overcome the odds against her and realize her dream to fly military aircraft. Mahoney is from the Northeast and currently lives in the Northwest. She's earned a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University in Boston and a master’s degree from Northwestern University, which makes for an interesting parallel to her life.
