Ed Sherman:
Sherman began his career at the Chicago Tribune in 1981 and remained there for 27 years in a full-time capacity through 2008. In 2012, he launched Sherman Report, a national site specializing in coverage of sports media.
Sherman is a 1981 graduate of the University of Illinois, where he served as sports editor and lead sports columnist for the Daily Illini. He wrote extensively on college sports as the Tribune’s national college football writer from 1988-1994. During that period, Sherman not only was recognized for his writing on football, but also for his extensive coverage of issues on college sports, such as academics, finances, and NCAA regulations. In 1994, the Center for the Study of Sports in Society at Northeastern University gave him their Excellence in Sports Journalism Award for a Tribune series on athletics and academics.
In Dec., 1989, Sherman broke the story of Penn State joining the Big Ten. As the Tribune’s sports media columnist, Sherman covered the creation of the Big Ten Network, writing extensively on how the network should be placed on basic cable.
From 1994-98, Sherman served as an associate sports editor for the Tribune, overseeing the Tribune’s college coverage.
Sherman is the author of four books, including “This is B1G,” and “Babe Ruth’s Called Shot.”
Sherman has served as an adjunct professor for journalism at Northwestern, Illinois and DePaul.
Sherman lives in Chicago’s North suburbs with his wife, Ilene, an attorney, and children, Matthew and Sam.
