Eileen Clancy Biegel is a U.S. Coast Guard veteran and a National Board Certified elementary school teacher who makes her home in northern Virginia. She is the recipient of two national teaching awards, in addition to a previous nomination for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). She is currently a fifth grade teacher in Loudoun County, Virginia. Eileen has presented at national and state educational conferences on the subject of ocean literacy, environmental literacy, and project-based learning. She is the proud mother of two children, Stephen and Jenny, who attend college in Florida. It was her passion for ocean literacy and the protection of the ocean to include sharing her experience on Kure Atoll that led to her writing Ocean One.
