She’s a Korean-American screenwriter and producer with an M.A. in Cinema Studies from New York University. She was born in South Korea, but she spent most of her life in America, which makes her as an Asian American.
After she graduated from New York University, she moved out to Los Angeles to pursue writing. She wrote screenplays, mostly about the relationships with her writing partner. She wrote and produced several shorts which have shown as festivals and been distributed online.
Her debut novel, "Rice Girls," which is set during Korea’s military dictatorship of the 1970’s and 1980’s, when the U.S. backed the military dictatorship with impunity. The 1990’s portion of “Rice Girls” is also loosely based on the author’s experience in Los Angeles, with the main character “Sally” as her inner-voice as an Asian American woman who is rejected or used as a sex object.
She thinks her passions come from her candid confession that could relate to people who are in pain from their own guilt or shame. She hopes her story could help people as a source of their own healing process as she shows how she has learned not to attach to desire and fear and feel a possibility of spiritual freedom. She believes an Asian woman's story could appeal to everyone regardless of the reader’s race, gender, religious, and cultural background since our suffering is universal beyond our background.
