Born in San Francisco, California, on May 21, 1954, G.D. Kessler has lived almost his entire life in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1956, taking advantage of the housing boom which was replacing orchards with housing tracts in the Santa Clara Valley, his family, (Father, Mother, older Brother and himself), moved to Cupertino. There he lived and went to school.
At the age of 9, his mother divorcing his father because of irreconcilable differences, and then his mother remarrying a couple of years later, the family moved to Santa Clara. Attending Emil R. Buchser High School from the years 1968-1971, his attendance terminated because of an arrest, (not his first), he was sentenced to the James Boys Ranch in Morgan Hill, California. There he finished High School and received his diploma.
Having graduated from the boys ranch, he entered the U.S. Army. Choosing the best service training, he became a truck driver. From Fort Ord he went to Korea for his first tour of duty. Unfortunately his drug habit resulted in a couple of arrests and facing two court martials he chose instead to apply for a discharge under Army Regulation 635-200; a discharge for the good of the service. With not quite a year in service his AR 635-200 request was granted and he was discharged from the Army.
Returning to the States in late 1973, he promptly resumed his drug use and within a matter of months was arrested for Grand Theft Auto and was sentenced to prison. Almost two years later he was released and within months of his release was strung out on heroin again.
In jail for explosives charges in 1987, Jesus Christ came into his life and he was born again. He began to turn his will and life over to the care of God, but his depraved nature and self-centeredness fought him tooth and nail. Finally in 1993, in answer to prayer he got clean. August 26, 1993 was the last day he used heroin or any other illegal drug, alcohol, or even smoked a cigarette. But the wrestling with his flesh and his sin nature was not over yet.
In 1995 he was arrested again. This became a recurring theme and for the next fifteen years, served a couple of years in the county jail and three more terms in prison. During his last prison term of 6 years, of which he served 3 years at Avenal State Prison, he decided to live out a life long dream of becoming a writer. Helped along his path by attending the CDCR approved Office Services Class, he hand wrote and completed six works of fiction.
Released in January 2014, he spent the next year typing up the first book, "While He Is Near" and then the second, "Hell, I'm No Angel" and after editing each self-published. He built his own website, and continues writing on the third book in the series THE ENOCH CHRONICLES, called, "FOUNDED." He hopes to eventually be able to make enough money selling his books to make a living so he can write full time.
He attends a local church in Cupertino, (Peninsula Bible Church Cupertino), and continues to attend recovery meetings. He has not re-offended since his arrest in 2010 and continues to pray that God create in him a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within him. And he continues to strive to change what he can and let God change what He will.
