Gary Bernard graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1990 (BFA) and began illustrating for publications like The National Review, Stocks and Commodities, Billboard and The New Republic. His first illustrated book, Pemba Sherpa (by Olga Cossi, Odyssey Books; 2009) won a Junior Library Guild Award, was added to The Amelia Bloomer Project and recently included into Boston College's "PIRLS" (the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study). He has authored and illustrated 3 other books; Ollie and Tugg (Odyssey Books, 2010), The Moth and the Sun (Year Twenty, 2014) and Salted Water (unpublished) which was included in the award winning documentary, Amazing Grace:Jeff Buckley. The Moth and the Sun was recently awarded a Gold Medal in the fable category for the Readers Favorite 2015 International Book Awards and Finalist of the 2015 International Book Awards.
