Born in 1937 the son of Presbyterian minister, he went on to follow in his father’s footsteps and became a Presbyterian minister himself. He was sent to “prep” for college at the Darlington School, Rome, Georgia then went on to further his education at these following college’s: Washington and Lee University, Virginia; Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta; Mississippi State University; Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey; and postgraduate basis at schools in France and Germany. James Lewis McLeod was tutored informally as a young man on writing and literary criticism by the Southern author, Flannery O'Connor. She was a devout Roman Catholic. He was a pall bearer at her funeral. They enjoyed an ecumenical relationship and discussed many subjects.
He has written many different books, some religious, some literature.” The Presbyterian Tradition in the South”, "The Great Dr. Waddell (pronounced Waddle)”, and “A Season of Grace, and Going beyond Literalism”. In addition, Dr. McLeod has a few websites: “Let the People Rule”; “Advocating Scottish Independence”; and, “Faith in Writing”.
He has also been Mayor Pro Team, Brunswick, Georgia 1996-1998. In 2000, he was listed in Marquis' "Who's Who in America”, "Who's Who in the World”, and "Who's Who in the South and Southeast”. McLeod’s style of writing is intentionally lucid, a circumstance not always found in works of historical and particularly educational scholarship.
