The author lived in Asia for 40 years. He has a BA in Political Science and an MA in Education from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He earned an MBA in international business from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He's a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America. He moved to Taiwan in 1975, met his spouse there, and was a teacher at Taipei American School for 17 years. Afterwards, he spent two-years in Sri Lanka as a gemologist before becoming the founding headmaster at Xiamen International School (XIS) in Fujian Province in 1997. In 2001, he became the headmaster at Qingdao International School (QIS) that years later became Qingdao No. 1 International School in Shandong Province. He currently resides in rural Oregon.
