Author John M. Brewer was born in 1938 and grew up in a number of towns across western North America. He went to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, obtaining a BA in 1960 and a PhD in 1963 in biochemistry. He spent 1963–1966 at the University of Illinois as a postdoctoral fellow. He was a regular faculty member for just over fifty years. For more than three years, he has been professor emeritus. His wife, Mary Sue, has contributed to or created nearly all the covers of his books. He and his wife have two children. He has over 100 academic professional publications.
He may have already hung his professor’s hat, but that only means he now has more time to devote to writing and telling stories. His hobby is reading history books. As a result of his interest in reading history, he has penned a period story set in Regency London—Rogue Lord.
