My life blossomed when I fell in love at sixteen with the boy who would ultimately become my husband for more than sixty years .After he died, I discovered the meaning of bereft. Reading his letters from 1950s Korea for the first time since then, I was astonished to discover how poetically he expressed his longing for me while also telling the story of the unlikely behaviors of soldiers in a foreign land. I found my high school diary with the letters which enabled me to describe the agony of trying to snag Dick when we met at sixteen. The Alzheimer's section is very brief and beautiful as I share some of our final conversations in which his poetic nature returned. The book honors the memory of my lifelong sweetheart.
