Michael Surdyka spent his formative years in the Baltimore, Maryland, area, where he saw the ugly face of addiction on a daily basis. From watching afflicted family members struggle to witnessing the downfall of entire neighborhoods, he has garnered personal experience dealing with the intricacies of addiction and observing the difficulties of living a sober life. It wasn’t until his twenties that he would go through the devastating effects firsthand after a freak car accident resulted in a prescription—and addiction—to painkillers.
The next ten years was like a revolving door between rehab, relapse and sobriety. Every failure brought him closer to finally figuring out where he was going wrong. During this arduous search for lasting fulfillment, Michael came to discover that the key to longevity in recovery was inside of him all along. His passion to write this book came after he lost some close friends to overdoses. This set off an alarm in this mind and he became determined to figure out why some people just can’t seem to beat their addictions. He is now an addiction-recovery consultant who helps those plagued by debilitating lifestyle choices & frequent relapses design a recovery plan that harnesses the inherent power of their uniqueness.
