Peggy Leon was born in the tiny mining town of McGill, Nevada and grew up in Reno, where she later attended university. She received her Masters in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her first book, Mother Country, was submitted by its publisher, Permanent Press, for the Pulitzer and draws on the rich stories and quirky character of her immigrant family's time in eastern Nevada. Her second book, A Theory of All Things, was submitted for both the National Book Award and the Pulitzer and explores the ways in which a family falls apart and then reassembles itself. Leon now celebrates the release of her third title, Grace and Baby. Born of her curiosity, compassion, and concern, it tells a touching tale about a family coming to terms with life and death, as they consider the universal questions of who we are and what we leave behind.
After following her husband to the four corners of the United States, to England for a year and then around the world several times, Peggy now lives in Cooperstown, New York, where she lives, writes, gardens, shivers in the winter, and fights for environmental causes.
