Born in Puerto Rico, Victor Manuel Alvarez moved at age nine with his older brother and their mother to New York City. While living in the Big Apple, Alvarez was soon drafted into the US Army.
After completing boot camp at Fort Dix, New Jersey, Alvarez reported for airborne training, ranger, mililtary police schools; and later, jungle warfare school in the Republic of Panama. His awards include Jump Wings, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the Purple Heart and Army Commendation Medal, amongst other numerous awards.
Alvarez attended the University of Maryland while on active duty and studied Criminal Justice with a minor in Law Enforcement. He served as a CID agent, or Army Criminal Investigator. He saw combat during two tours in Vietnam and sustained gunshot and shrapnel wounds. While serving in Japan, he studied Shotokan Karate and obtained the coveted rank of Godan, or 5th Degree Black belt.
He is classified as an expert in small arms and combat knife fighting and he obtained the classification as sharshooter with Army assault weapons. He hold a Japanese Renshi instructors license under the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai in classical Japanese weaponary.
After retiring from the US Army, with 21 years of service, Alvarez applied for and received his private investigator's credentials in the state of Arizona and he became an Arizona bounty hunter in the 1980's.
