Wanda and her husband 'blended' their two families many years ago. Many of you have done the same. We doubled the diversity in our lives and in our families. This is reflected in 'If you looked at me'. The idea for the book happened because i wanted to describe, in a positive way, how I felt when people I met assumed that I would agree with their prejudices and felt free to speak in negative ways about people who were just like members of my family. From the feedback I've gotten regarding the book, I'm pretty sure I've done just that.
My husband and I spend most of our weekends visiting friends and family and 8 grandchildren! Each day our fears for our family members of color or who identify LGBTQI increase. We have similar fears for the for the females in our family. Maybe helping younger people explore the diversity in their lives and recognizing how better their lives are for it, will help our grandchildren one day.
