A Hesperan seeress, Jula, falls in live with a poet/fischerman, Leonardo, from Earth. She has him teleported to her technologically advanced planet, which needs fertile humans to save them from extinction. Her love object is , however, in love with Anya and he resents being brought to Hespera. Jula is a secuctive number that he cannot resist. But a dark arrangement for humans, an Ecodome, convinces him to flee the planet, whenever he can. War beginnings give him the opportunity, but once back on Earth he thinks he might have missed out on a soulmate.
