Picked up this book up to read to my niece and nephew. I was hoping to find a new Christmas story to add to those we read every holiday season and I believe we did. The main character, Eddie moves to a new town and is hoping to make friends fast just like most kids his age. The action moves at a good pace, not leaving my listeners bored and also piquing their interest with the mystery of this town and the secret war taking place there. As Eddie starts making friends he meets challenges but doesn’t give up. Throughout the story he is clutching onto the one thing that’s never let him down, Christmas! It’s a fun characteristic about him that ties into the whole story. Overall it’s an exciting, new story that may be a good challenge to younger readers.

After moving to a new town days before Christmas, an adventurous boy named Eddie becomes suspicious when he learns that no one seems to be aware of the fact that Christmas is just days away. Always the curious adventurer and young spy, Eddie decides that he must get to the bottom of this strange situation. It doesn't take him long to stumble upon a mysterious character and accidentally take a whirlwind ride through a hidden portal that lands him in, of all places, the North Pole. There he learns about Santa’s special task force of Elf Rangers, the protectors of Christmas. Eddie also learns of the evil Shadow Shifters, who are behind the mysterious disappearance of Christmas in Brookville, and their even more sinister plan. With the odds stacked against him and Christmas only a few days away, Eddie jumps into action. He is courageous and he has a plan to help, but the danger that lies ahead may be too much. The Shadow King has his eye on Eddie now and he may be in over his head!
