Fascinating novel! I could not put this book down once I started reading it. I've not been a particularly sci-fi book fan, but this novel has changed me. It seems many authors who look into the future accurately predict what might happen years from now, And Jon Batson has taken the problems we now face on earth, with the possible calamities they may cause our planet in years to come, into an engaging, beautifully written story.

A young girl is thrust into space in a remotely operated vehicle, and must overcome all sorts of dangers, but with the help of an unseen female robot navigator, manages to persevere. The author's talent is amazing, and reminds me of H.G. Wells. I WANT A SEQUEL!

Must read for adult and YA, both. The only reason I didn't read this all the way through in one endless sitting is, I fell asleep on the book last night. I woke up and started right back in! Now I am glad to hear a sequel is to the rough draft stage!

At first a bit of a leaf on the wind, our fugitive stowaway soon gets an important position aboard a starship and starts guiding it to point of interest in discovering the mysteries of her past.

She learns about love and betrayal, peace and war, High Society and the black-market criminal dregs ready to sell her out for a family fortune they seem to know more about than does she.

Once Star assumes the role of leadership of her own life, we start to root and cheer for her at every dangerous turn of events.

Jon Batson has spun another great tale with life's wisdom invisibly sewn into the web!

First off, I love the premise. There is a plausible set-up for a young woman to travel the galaxy(ies?) with unlimited places to go and people to see and adventures to live through with the help of an anthropomorphic spaceship. Then the adventures take off.

The friendly spaceship our heroine has hitched a ride on is an autopiloted repair vehicle with an agenda of its own, so our teen-age heroine at first goes along for the ride (to avoid a bill collection). As various planets are visited and repairs are made we learn a lot about our girl's hard life, a mystery map her father left behind, her secret (and not so secret) enemies and very helpful friends (one of whom slips her a chip that greatly boosts the intelligence & abilities of her ship) and one by one the clues are laid out but...

Sadly the book ends before we can figure it all out.
Do I smell a sequel? I hope so.

Meanwhile Adventures of a Space Bum is a rollicking good time, a yarn well spun, and I'll be one of the first to read the next in what I hope will be a series.

Although there are some sexy and violent scenes it is a great choice for Young Adults.

In Adventures of a Space Bum our heroine starts off with no home, barely any money, and running from the police. When she stumbles upon an empty spaceship installed with a freethinking computer, her adventures in space begin. This was a very refreshing and entertaining book. Children and young adults will become fans of this new and unique series.
