Ain't No Grave by S.A. Softley tells the tale of a man facing a changed world after a virus outbreak. The story begins as he is on a plane, on a flight to see his mother. While on the plane, the man next to him becomes ill and dies suddenly from an unknown illness. The man ends up in the middle of nowhere, alone, and has to try to survive using the knowledge he has learned from working in the wilderness for his job. He must try to work out what has happened to the residents of the town and how he ended up there. He has to use everything he has to save the other survivors that he comes across.
S.A. Softley has created a psychological, dark story with Ain't No Grave. The main character has to rely on his own wits and skills to get by. The addition of his claustrophobia was a great way of making his character more sympathetic. The condition clearly affects him in his everyday life, turning him into a nervous wreck on a simple plane flight before the real fear begins. It has a mixture of different genres thrown in and it was an interesting read. The main character goes through a disturbing, hard journey as he tries to survive. I think it will appeal to fans of horror, dystopian and apocalyptic books. I think it has a unique angle to a traditional post apocalypse novel and will do well in the market.
