Ain't No Grave
When a medical emergency causes a plane to make an emergency landing at an isolated northern Canadian airfield, a single survivor is left to piece together the events that found him unconscious and alone in the medical centre of a recently abandoned ghost town. Naked, sick and hungry, he must use his knowledge and skill to survive the sub-arctic winter and uncover the secrets of the town's final days. His revelations will lead him on a quest to seek redemption and help the scattered survivors of a terrible disaster. Ain't No Grave is not your average zombie novel. Introspective and psychological, it is the story of a man coping with survival in a changed world. He will soon discover that he too, has changed and nothing will ever be the same. Quiet, dark and emotional yet with twists, turns and tense action, Ain't No Grave will thrill you and leave you waiting in anticipation for the next instalment. Inspired by apocalyptic, mythological and old western stories, "The Penance of Leather" Saga is a loose adaptation of the Labours of Heracles set in a modern world reeling from global disaster.

Ain't No Grave by S.A. Softley tells the tale of a man facing a changed world after a virus outbreak. The story begins as he is on a plane, on a flight to see his mother. While on the plane, the man next to him becomes ill and dies suddenly from an unknown illness. The man ends up in the middle of nowhere, alone, and has to try to survive using the knowledge he has learned from working in the wilderness for his job. He must try to work out what has happened to the residents of the town and how he ended up there. He has to use everything he has to save the other survivors that he comes across.

S.A. Softley has created a psychological, dark story with Ain't No Grave. The main character has to rely on his own wits and skills to get by. The addition of his claustrophobia was a great way of making his character more sympathetic. The condition clearly affects him in his everyday life, turning him into a nervous wreck on a simple plane flight before the real fear begins. It has a mixture of different genres thrown in and it was an interesting read. The main character goes through a disturbing, hard journey as he tries to survive. I think it will appeal to fans of horror, dystopian and apocalyptic books. I think it has a unique angle to a traditional post apocalypse novel and will do well in the market.
