Allegation 17
Fiona Padfield, author
Topical, daring and controversial, Fiona Padfield's new novel takes on the UK's Family Court System, its sinister machinations and notorious 'code of silence', a method that has broken families and hurt generations of children.
Padfield becomes the literary voice for so many women wronged by a skewed court system.
Allegation 17 is a beautifully written, fictionalised drama based on a true story of a woman's labyrinthine struggle to save her child from an abusive situation. Her greatest enemies are the ones who promise to protect her: the UK's Byzantine court system and her own kin. H Cavendish de Moura/CNN

It is powerful and affecting. I admire the ambition in the way it is structured. This is a near impossible subject to write about but one that should be written about and read.
