America: We Have the Country We Want
Mark Mullen, author
In this book, Mullen examines some the failures of corporate America including the violation of sacred trusts between employer and employee; vanishing retirement; and the throw away employee. The role of education and a few of the most popular education myths used by politicians and the media are examined. The topics of entry level skills gap, STEM, and college for everyone are explored with an eye on reality and common sense. American politicians like to play the blame game. Over spend budgets, and then blame the rich; ignore policies that produce jobs, and then blame the CEO’s for being over paid; need more money, blame the treasury for not printing enough. But politicians are not the only ones who blame. Society has been institutionalized and rewarded for blaming others for our blunders. In this chapter Mullen examines these and other topics. The First and Second Amendments of the Constitution continue to be the most controversial and talked about government pieces of legislation of all time. Both amendments have a following of interpreters on what the founding fathers really meant. In this chapter, Mullen frames his common sense views surrounding religious holiday displays, religion in school, the war of religion, and the war on guns. Why does the media exist? Mullen examines that very question in this chapter. He touches on TV and newspaper reporting and the entertainment style of news. He looks at some of the external factors that shape what you see, hear, and read. And finally, Mullen takes a peek at social media and its unintended consequence of quarantining its users.

In his book, America: We Have The Country We Want, Mark Mullen gives a citizen’s view of hot American topics, including: business, education, society in general, religion, guns, the media, etc. In each subject, Mullen begins by presenting a common view (i.e., our public schools are failing American children) and then goes on to present different facts and angles to give the reader better knowledge in that area. He also includes his personal viewpoint, often in tongue-in-cheek ways. Mullen comes from a conservative, Christian standpoint, but does not show unwarranted bias against other perspectives (unlike some from that field).

I really enjoyed reading Mark Mullen’s book, America: We Have The Country We Want. I came to the subject with some interest and knowledge, but walked away feeling well-informed, refreshed, and more likely to read about such matters in the future. I appreciated that Mullen had solid facts to back up his thoughts on different matters. The topics of business and taxes especially interested me. My husband is a small business owner, so I know a little about the ins and outs of some things, but the information presented in this book deepened my knowledge of such matters. I really enjoy when I walk away from a book feeling like I could have a more intellectual conversation on the subject than before I read it. And Mullen’s book did just that for me. Highly recommended to all – but conservative Christians will find it especially satisfying and useful. Great for teens and up!

Examining the way the United States is put together and run as a country, Mark Mullen's America: We Have the Country We Want offers a common sense approach to everything from big business to social media.

With sections for Business, Education, Society, Religion and Guns, and Media, Mullen explains why -- despite Americans' complaints about their country -- they ultimately have the country they "want." Backing up each proposal with facts and footnotes, the author pokes holes in Americans' arguments that we should "blame the rich," that there is a "war on religion," and even that "guns kill."

The book is sure to polarize readers from across the political spectrum with its bold claims and refusal to simply bow down to mainstream media sound bites. The author comes across as determined to present his own viewpoint, free from any partisan affiliations, which makes for interesting reading. Backing up his arguments with plenty of facts, figures and a healthy dose of rhetoric, readers will find plenty to ponder here.

America: We Have the Country We Want, by Mark Mullen, is a composite of issues about which the author has the right to observe, question, complain, and give his well-informed opinions. Sometimes he does this giving honest parting shots with a sense of humor that will leave you chuckling. While covering many touchy subjects that most people tend to shy away from, he reveals the truths about Wall Street, business, CEOs and taxation. Should religion be allowed back in our schools? Is the government really borrowing from our social security benefits? Is the US dollar on the verge of losing its status as being the world reserve currency? The answers to these questions are in this information filled book that every American should own.

Mr. Mullen has really done his homework to be able to back up everything he talks about, especially because his facts, figures and references are all well documented. He touches on the subjects of parenting, the social media, and the right to bear arms. I was drawn to this work with interest, because I have learned not be skeptical when it comes to these subjects. Mark writes with a style that drew me in, like getting advice from your favorite uncle or grandfather, and he kept me from putting the book down. America: We Have the Country We Want is smart, witty and filled with information worthy of the patriotic conversations of our forefathers. Open your eyes. America: We Have the Country We Want will light a spark of patriotism in you.
