Lifelong friends Charles and Aurin have called the city of Hudcoeden home since they were carried there as infants from the fallen city of Falderal. Aurin, a skilled swordsman serving the city guard, carries only an old sword said to belong to his father as his tie to a family that died when he was too young to remember. Charles, whose background is shrouded in a Wizard’s robe, is seeking to hone his magical skill as a member of the order of Wizards himself, but he continually finds himself at odds with a Druid order that feels his lack of discretion is too great for the power he could wield. Both want only to prove their worth to a city where they have grown up as orphans. But the boys are not the only legacy of Falderal that has come to Hudcoeden and the mysterious forces that saw it fall under a tide of demons have returned. Accused of bringing the nightmare by the people of the only home they know and attacked by dark cultists, only one option remains to them. They must flee into the dark forest, Wylltraethel.
