BEYOND THE WORLD

Children/Young Adult; Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror; (Market)

In 2020, a year after an out-of-this-world encounter in Chinatown, Una Waters ventures into Yosemite National Park with General Ashcroft, on their honeymoon. When a coded distress call pulls him unexpectedly away on duty, Una uncovers a UFO mystery and turns to compadre Jack Howser for help. Joined by friends from Explorers Club, their quest for answers leads to a string of unworldly campsites, ancient caves, living pterosaurs, and a military manhunt--all fueled by an Alien conspiracy that threatens the survival of humanity! Una comes to realize that Fear of the Unknown may be our greatest obstacle, and the fight to overcome it requires Transformation: a willingness to let go of the Lies we hold dear.

"Beyond the World," by husband-wife writing team T.J. & M.L. Wolf, has caused a first for me when reading a book - it sent actual tingles down my spine. I started out reading slowly, because each page is packed with so much that I wanted to fully absorb. However, it wasn't long before I began to fly through the pages, and I just couldn't stop until I reached the end. I felt like I, myself, had just gone through a wormhole and come full circle in this amazing saga that Una Waters and her husband, General Ashcroft, are on.

Upon turning the last page, all I could think of was Richard Dreyfuss in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," - WE ARE NOT ALONE. I get shivers just thinking about it, and of all the wondrous and mystical and mysterious things that come to light in this marvelous book. All I wanted to do was immediately grab the first book in this series and just start all over again. I've never encountered books quite like the ones this dynamic writing duo have created. As they remind us many times throughout the books - everything happens for a reason - and I believe I was drawn to their books, by them, for a reason. Everything is connected and there is more to this universe and the many galaxies beyond, than human mind can completely comprehend.

If you allow yourself to be fully immersed in the stories they've shaped in these otherworldly novels, you'll find yourself an experience like no other. I really enjoy their writing style and can't wait to see where their journey takes them next. Just rest assured that no matter what world or planet they end up on next, it is going to be the thrill of a lifetime.

Una Waters and General Ashcroft go to Yosemite National Park for their honeymoon however it doesn't work out quite how they intended. He received a coded distress call so gets pulled away, then Una uncovers a UFO mystery and pulls in Jack Howser for help. Una and Jack are joined by members of the Explorers Club as they search for answers via abandoned campsites and ancient caves. They uncover an alien conspiracy that threatens the whole of humanity as they encounter pterosaurs and the military trying to stop them. Can they change perceptions and get to the bottom of the mystery?

This was a complex mystery that had many layers in the story as it built into a final conclusion. It was a little slow to start but I soon became addicted to the story and found myself reading faster as I needed to know what happened next. This is a great trilogy that will keep your attention to the very end. Well written and easy to understand.

In book three of the Survival Trilogy we rejoin Una Waters, her new husband General Ashcroft, and good old Jack Howser for another round of alien encounters and Hopi prophesy. Once again the pace is spot on, the twists a thrilling ride, and the characters and scenarios believable. From viral agents in the water, time travel technology, and plants within the military and USFS this is a tale of how conspiracy can hide in the open, or seemingly so, only found by the right people in the right circumstances.

I was sad when the book ended because I want more of the story. What happens next? What is the decision to be made in the stars? What happens with the indigos like myself? Which of the two cycle choices will our world ultimately enter? All I can do is wait to see if the Wolfs write more beyond this trilogy.

I really love the heavy reference to the ancient Hopi prophesy and how important it is for the keepers of the races and elements to work together. I also love how within this Una has to be very careful of who she trusts and discerning about who may be a keeper and who is an impostor. Different ways of life meet for a common goal, as they should. This is the sort of tale that my father would love if he were still alive, and my grandfather as well. It takes the narrative of good aliens and bad aliens and then makes it accessible, just as it does the good humans and the bad humans.

I think that this whole series ought to be available in high school and middle school libraries.
